Who is The Lady in My Dreams (Joseph Casts a Curse. Debbie Gibson is In My Dreams. Dedication to Inanna)

Joseph Casts a Curse

Feb 15, 1988

It’s been a really long time since I’ve written in here so I’m going to try to catch up.

Larry (the scum that used to live on our street) and his family have been evicted making us the last of the original families on our part of the street. Everyone else has moved away. I know this may sound strange but I feel this was directly or at least indirectly due to a curse I put on Larry and his house. Yes. A curse. But I’ll speak more on that later.

Background: In November, my dad and Larry had an argument over his (expletive) daughter Kimmie’s stealing stones from around our shrubs. Then Larry called the police and charged my dad with assault. He’ll be going to court in June. Then later that month, Larry’s mortgage was called in by the bank he took it out from and recommended his eviction. It appears he was several months behind. he was a miserable son of a bitch anyway and I’m certainly not sorry.

In 1988, I did not write down WHY Larry was scum. One time Larry hired the neighbourhood kids to do yard work and then didn’t pay us. He stared too long at young girls but this was socially acceptable in the 1980s. Not for my dad (Terry Murphy), though. Terry taught me from a young age that men who prey on children were monsters to be put down. So when my dad had a chance to yell at Larry, he yelled. I watched as he screamed in Larry’s face and poked him in the chest.

“Stay away from the fucking kids,” my dad said. Larry went inside his house and called the police. He charged my dad with assault. My father had to hire a lawyer for the court date. It was dismissed, of course. Common sense would have indicated the charge was a waste of time and money. But my journals are clear: I knew from a young age that our systems were not build on common sense.

To that child’s mind, the system was protecting a predator. Why was it socially acceptable for men to harass young girls but NOT socially acceptable for men to stick up for children? Adult me tends to agree.

So there was only one choice: go outside the system and use magic.

Although I say I’ll talk more about the curse later, I never mention it on paper again. Instead, I write about the cute guys in my class. This includes Colin, the inspiration for Tadgh’s first boyfriend in A Fallen Hero Rises.

Then I talk about my new friend, Sandra J. I say Sandra likes me but “all I can think about (besides Debbie Gibson) is guys! guys! guys”. I was obsessed with Debbie Gibson because she reminded me of the woman I kept seeing in my dreams. I remember those dreams like they were yesterday. Carry. The woman in my dreams who showed up to to remind me who I really was. Until recently, I believed those dreams stopped in adolescence. The dreams never stop.

Dedication to Inanna

Now the big new. I’ve become what is commonly known as a pagan. Althought I despise that name because it implies a heathenhood which I do not feel I fulfil. I worship Inanna whose colour is the …

Several pages are missing (April 1-April 4). I assume I ripped them out at some point. The journal entry continues with something I can only describe as weird."

I hope to become really proficient with these powers and hopefully gain others.

I have no active recall of this. It seems like poppycock. Please remember this is pre-internet in a very Christian area. At the time all I knew about Inanna she was mentioned in the Simon Necronomicon. It was a paperback grimoire based on the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft. Everyone knew it was a fake. Taken in isolation its simple teenage delusion.

But this is just the beginning. The lesson here: sometimes the most important information is never written down.
